Simon Jerome Sattler Obituary

Simon Jerome Sattler, 83, died at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby on Thursday, August 6, 2020. Mr. Sattler was born on the family farm near Knox on September 10, 1936 to Sylvester and Katherine (Thomas) Sattler. He attended school in the Knox area until he joined the United States Navy in 1954. He spent 3 years in foreign service. He was awarded 2 Good Conduct Medals, China Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged on his 21st birthday – September 10, 1957. He married Marie Pederson on May 25, 1959 in Knox. The family moved to Washington where he was employed as a carpenter until returning to Knox in 1970 where he continued to do carpentry work. One of his greatest joys, other than his family and grandchildren, was his love of horses. In his later years he enjoyed creative wood working and growing vegetables and flowers in his garden. He was a life-long member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Knox. He is survived by his children: SyAnn and her husband Randy Graber – Rugby, Sheryl and her husband Thad Shively – Sherburn, Minnesota, Sandy and her husband Tim Bonn – Rugby and Steve Sattler - Rugby. He also leaves 11 grandchilden and 18 great grandchildren in addition to a sister, Rose Marie Weber – Billings, Montana and a brother, Gabriel Sattler – Bottineau. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Gertude Iverson, Eva Mears, Wendelin,Adam,Andrew, Sylvester, Paul, Katherine and George Sattler. Three great grandchilden, Coty, Alisha, and Paityn also preceeded him.
