Lucille Dorothy Portlock Obituary

Lucille "Lulu" Portlock April 25, 1952 - July 27, 2020 On July 27, 2020, Lucille Dorothy Portlock, 68, of Anchorage, AK joined her beloved husband Mike, when she passed away in her sleep due to natural causes, in her home. She was born in Ketchikan, AK on April 25, 1952 to Romey and Katie Atkinson, Katie barely made it off the boat in time, and Lulu was carried back home to Metlakatla in a dresser drawer. After graduating from Metlakatla High School she attended University of Alaska, Fairbanks. She worked jobs as a tutor and counselor, guiding Alaskan students from small communities. In 1973 she met Mike during their job traveling with students to Spain. In 1976 she bought her first pair of Levis from the children's section, to fit her small frame, to work on construction of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. Lu and Mike then moved to Oahu and Washington, before moving back to Anchorage and getting married in 1979 and having 2 daughters. She became a troop leader and lifetime member of the Girl Scouts. She was an active member of the PTA, many of her daughter’s schoolmates still remember her volunteering in the computer lab. She worked for Western Delta from 1986 to 2005, allowing her and her family to go on many adventures all over the country. She finished her career working in City Hall, and then began enjoying retirement. She was excited to fly on Delta One to Seoul, Korea, and some of her favorite times were spent vacationing in Hawaii with her daughters. Besides traveling, she loved to cook and made sure every person that came to her home left full. She was an amazing hostess that loved entertaining family and friends. She was always generous to her valued causes and charities. She was fiercely loving and went out of her way to help others. She is survived by her daughters Katie and Kelli Portlock; sisters Helen Feiger, Evelyn Stands and Debbie Schoolcraft, brothers Romey, Reggie and Lester Atkinson; and many beloved nieces, nephews and extended family. She is preceded in death by her parents Romey and Katie Atkinson, and her husband Michael Portlock. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in her name to a local charity. Due to covid-19 restrictions, please sign up at https://bit.ly/39LlN7Y for the viewing on August 7 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
