Herbert Lewis Obituary

Herbert Lewis was born on December 10th, 1931 to the Late Mr. Eli and Nenner Parris Lewis Sr. He was educated in the Decatur County, Ga school system. He worked on the farm at an early age. He left Georgia also at an early age to live in Newark, New Jersey. Eventually he moved to Plainfield, New Jersey, where he remained until his death. He met and married his love, The late Mrs. Bessie J. Small Lewis. They had no children. Mr. Lewis was a dedicated and hard worker. He worked on one job for sixty years and never missed a day. Mr. Lewis was never late or never called off. He was employed by the same company that hired him all those years until he retired. That same company refers to him “Iron Man Herbert”. Mr. Lewis was a member the Masonic Brotherhood for over forty years. He was raised at the Tyre Lodge #29, Newark NJ in 1972. He moved to Stone Square Lodge #38, Plainfield, NJ in 1979 where he remained until his death. Mr. Lewis is preceded in death by his Father and Mother, Mr. Eli Lewis Sr, and Mrs. Nenner Parris Lewis. His loving wife, Mrs. Bessie J. Small Lewis, His Brothers; Mr. Cleveland Lewis Sr, Mr. Melvin Lewis, Mr. J.W. Lewis, and Mr. Eli Lewis Jr. ; His Sisters; Mrs. Francis Lewis Cooper, Mrs. Mary Ethal Lewis Phillips, Mrs. Lue Ella Lewis Phillips, Mrs. Martha Lee Lewis Jackson, Mrs. Christine Lewis Taylor, and Mrs. Aretha Lewis Brown. Mr. Lewis leaves to cherish his memories his sisters Mrs. Rachel Lewis Anderson of Tallahassee, Fla, and Mrs. Lucy Bell Lewis Floyd of Bainbridge, Ga, and Nenner Lewis, location unknown. Generations of Nephews and Nieces, Great Nephews and Nieces, Great Great Nephews and Nieces, Cousins and Friends.
