Douglas Earl Hargrove

Douglas Earl Hargrove passed on to eternity on August 3, 2020, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 95. He was born in Kiowa County, Oklahoma, on September 14, 1924. He is survived by his loving wife Lou Ellen Bryant Hargrove. He is also survived by four children from his previous marriage: Lynn Hargrove of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Gary Hargrove and wife, Cindy of Sand Springs, Ron Hargrove and wife, Cheryl of McKinney, Texas, and Dana McBurney and husband, Gary of Owasso, Oklahoma, seven grandchildren: Scott Hargrove, Adam Hargrove, Leslie Winchester, Pamela Smith, Geoff Hargrove, Matt Hargrove, and Kendra Gelinas, eleven great-grandchildren: Emily, Cody, Jack, Alex, Lilly, Emma, Avery, Braden, Luca, Misha, and David, three nieces: Leslie King, Shannon Daney, and Laine Neisen and a cousin: Deanne Coward. He is preceded in death by his parents: Hazel and Ira Hargrove and sister: Mary Margaret Lambert. Doug grew up in the southwest Oklahoma area and graduated from Lawton High School in 1941. After the United States entered WWII, he enlisted in the Army Air Corp. in 1942. His WWII military service took him to Sicily, England, and North Africa. Returning from the war, Doug graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Geology. His three decades with Marathon Oil Company transferred his family to California, Ohio, Wyoming, and several locations in Oklahoma. He was married to Glenna Yvonne Nelson from 1948 to 1989. He married Lou Ellen Bryant on July 6, 1990, and is survived by her three sons: Doug, Darrell, and David. Doug enjoyed his family, friends, golf, dancing, and was an avid OU fan. He was active in the Young Men's Club and Dinner Club of Oklahoma City. It was his privilege to be included in the "Honor Flight" to Washington D.C. with his son and other veterans in 2014. During his later years, he received much comfort from his loving caregiver, Kim Campbell and his affectionate Standard Poodle, Pierre. Services for Mr. Hargrove will be held at Vondel L Smith Funeral Home in Oklahoma City at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, August 12, 2020. The family asks that donations be made to Alzheimer's research in lieu of flowers.
