It is with heavy hearts that the family of Murray Gilles announce his passing on Sunday, August 2, 2020 at the age of 62 years.

Murray will be remembered by his beloved wife Betty, daughter Kristen & grandson Cameron, along with his many extended family and friends.

Murray was born on March 18, 1958 in Unity SK to the parents of Lloyd & Thelma Gilles.  He lived and attended school there until graduating in 1976.  He shortly after that moved to Kindersley and was employed by the then Sask Wheat Pool, after a few years later he moved on to the oilfield working as a operator for Calana Resources.   When the oil industry was in a slump, he was laid off and settled in as a stay-at-home dad for six months.  He soon got hired on as a custodian with then Kindersley School Division and this is where he thrived and worked until present day.  Murray married Betty in 1983 and their daughter Kristen was born in 1986.  Years later a grandson Cameron was born in 2011.  Murray was an avid bowler, taking part in many tournaments over the years with his greatest accomplishment of being a part of a team that went to Nationals.  Murray enjoyed his motorcycle and with Betty on the back, they went on a few trips out to BC in the recent years.  He has a detailed model train set up which has entertained young and old.  Murray was a hard worker and could be seen on many cold and snowy days shoveling snow around town which he considered fun.  Murray passed away after a short diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.  Murray leaves behind siblings Harold (June), Elaine (Ken), Eileen (Casper), father-in-law Raymond (Rachel), brothers-in-law Dennis (Kathryn), Robert, Gerald (Patricia) and many nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends.  He was predeceased by both his parents, his mother-in-law Helen, and sister-in-law Jody.  He will be greatly missed.

Cameron has been telling me a lot lately that papa will be in a better place and I began to wonder what that place would look like for my dad.  I wrote a poem to describe what I hope is that better place for him

I’ve titled this poem “My Dad”

 

May the road be smooth

And the chrome always shine

 

May the fish always bite

And stay on the line

 

May the cars all go fast

And their engines roar

 

May there never be mud

On a freshly waxed floor

 

May the boat start every time

So you don’t have to row

 

May there be soft snow to shovel

And fresh grass to mow

 

May it always be coffee time

With someone new to say hi

 

May there be never-ending Pepsi, Cheezies

And lemon meringue pie

 

May there never be head pins

Or corner pins that don’t fall

 

May there always be ball games

And the Jays win em all

 

May you ride on your Harley

Without a care in the world

 

May you look back fondly

At how your life has unfurled

 

May you be smiling upon us

From wherever you are

 

May you feel the power of our love

Stronger than a souped up old car

 

May you never have to worry

Or ever fell sad

 

May you know how proud I’ve always been

To call you my dad
