Dorothy Gertrude (Groot) Vanderburg completed her earthly life on August 3, 2020 and went Home to be with the sweetest name she knew, Jesus. She lived to be 106 years of age. Family and friends in Heaven are rejoicing with the arrival of this wonderful lady who stored up many treasures in heaven. “Only one life ‘twill soon be past; only what’s done for Christ will last,” is a saying she had hanging on her living room wall, and she certainly lived by it. We can only imagine how glorious it must have been for her to hear her Savior say; “Well done, my good and faithful servant …. enter into the joy of the Lord.” Dorothy was born on December 11, 1913 in Sanborn, O’Brien Co., Iowa. Her grandparents were some of the original Dutch pioneers to settle the Iowa and South Dakota frontier. She was the daughter of John Henry Groot and Mayme Maria (Den Beste) Groot. She married Marion H. “Mike” Vanderburg on April 23, 1935 in Sheldon, Iowa and remained there in Sheldon for most of her life, raising her five children there. She moved to Soddy Daisy, Tennessee in 2007 to be near her family. She was a charter member of the Sheldon Gospel Tabernacle (now Parkview Assembly of God) church in Sheldon for the majority of her life and was actively involved in the women’s ministry and the missions ministry. She has been in regular attendance at Stuart Heights Baptist Church and Daisy Church of God since moving to Soddy Daisy. She will be remembered for her love for missions, making blankets, quilts, clothing, cloth books, and Christian literature to be sent overseas to orphanages and Bible schools. Over the years she sponsored several underprivileged children in the Philippines to ensure they received a quality education. She made two trips to the Philippines (1984 and 1989) where her daughter and son-in-law were missionaries at that time. Her other hobbies and interests included embroidering, crocheting, collecting recipes, gardening, camping, attending Bible studies, and visiting family and friends. She and her husband Marion enjoyed traveling in their motorhome to visit their children and do mission work in Roma, Texas. Later, she enjoyed taking Amtrak to visit her children and grandchildren. On her ninetieth birthday she took a Caribbean cruise with family members and her dear friend Jean. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 45 years Marion Vanderburg, one brother, Henry J. Groot, sister, Katherine (Groot) Mouw and two siblings who died in infancy. She is survived by one brother, Marion J. Groot of Springfield, Missouri. She is also survived by her five children: Darlene J. Jensen (Fred) of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee; Raymond M. Vanderburg (Carole) of Washington, Illinois; Angeline D. Lindstrom (Harold) of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee; Robert J. Vanderburg (Lynnette) of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee; and Ralph W.
