John E. "Jack" Morrissey Obituary

John "Jack" Edward Morrissey, 83, of West Des Moines, Iowa, passed away from Alzheimer's August 2, 2020, at Perry Lutheran Home. Jack was born December 17, 1936, to John and Monica (Barron) Morrissey. He graduated from Lovilia High School, Class of 1954. Jack married Alverta Berte in June of 1964 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Joe Iowa. He worked at Bridgestone/Firestone for 37 years as a tire builder, retiring in 1999. He was a member of Holy Trinity Church for 23 years as well as the Knights of Columbus. Most recently he was a member of St. Francis Parish for 28 years. An avid reader, Jack’s greatest joys in life included spending time with family, traveling, celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, listening to music, and mowing his lawn. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, John and Monica Morrissey; his sister Kay and her husband Pat McGinn; brother Jim Morrissey; and brother in law Bob Clark. Jack is survived by his wife of 56 years, Alverta and their four children: Jackie (Pat) Meyer of Denver, Colorado; Janet (Tim) Coppock of Denver, Colorado; Eddie (Sarah) Morrissey of Denver, Colorado; and Christina (Greg) Carender of Canton, Georgia. His sisters, Margy Morrissey, Mary Roan, and her husband, Jim, and Geri Clark; and sister-in-law Ann Morrissey. He is also survived by his ten grandchildren: Jake, Madeline, Jack, and Natalie Meyer; Dylan Coppock; Charlie and Tyler Morrissey; and Caroline, Ryan, and Royce Carender. Private funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, August 6, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Due to COVID-19, the service will be live-streamed on the Iles website. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
