Thomas Ivan Murphy, Jr.

Thomas Ivan Murphy, Jr, 77, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2020. A native of Pensacola, Florida and long time resident of Mobile, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, Rose Marie (Duff) Murphy. Also preceding him in death are his parents Thomas Ivan Murphy, Sr. and Ruth Mae Murphy McGraw as well as his sister Ruth Ann Murphy and brother Michael Murphy. Tom will affectionately be remembered by his five children Richard (Melissa) Murphy, Patricia (Glenn) Foster, Catherine (Glenn) Cooper, Tim (Lisa) Murphy & Melissa (Joel) Hasse. Also left to cherish her memory are his grandchildren, Christopher Foster, Heather (Chris) Ellison, Mason (Rebecca) Hasse, Glenn (Joelle) Foster, Megan (Cody) Crawford, Stephanie Hasse, John Thomas Naylor, Tyler (Taylor) Murphy, Catie Naylor, Nicholas Walton, Hannah Naylor, Seth Murphy, Ashlyn Cooper, Ethan Murphy, Ella Murphy and Austin Hasse and 6 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Susan (Dean) Chestnutt, and sisters-in-law, Patricia Dumas, Irene B. Duff and Margaret Duff. Tom was a proud Vietnam Veteran serving in the U.S. Army from 1963 until 1966, serving in Korea, Okinawa, and Vietnam as a combat construction engineer. He selflessly served his community for 48 years as a member of the Mobile County Sheriff’s Flotilla. He also served as a volunteer for the American Red Cross. Tom retired from Warrior & Gulf Navigation in 2006 after 38 years service where he was a tugboat mechanic. He was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church and a member of DAV Post 7 in Mobile. During his retirement years, he enjoyed doing whatever Ms. Rose told him to do. He loved spending as much time as possible with his family, whether fishing or camping. Tom was a heartfelt man and his greatest legacy will be something he lived every day….. Family is most important and we must take care of each other. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Mobile County Sherriff’s Flotilla, P.O. Box 103, Mobile, AL 36601, in his name. Visitation will be held at Ascension Funeral Home on Monday, August 3, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. –8:00 p.m., with a rosary being recited at 6:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church with burial to follow at Serenity Gardens. Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, please practice social distancing and masks will be required. Arrangements are by Ascension Funeral Home, 1016 Hillcrest Road, Mobile, Alabama 36695.
