Johanna Christine Meyer Obituary

MEYER, Johanna Christine (Pikkemaat) - February 3, 1929 - July 31, 2020 Peacefully at Terrace Lodge, Aylmer in her 92nd year. Beloved wife of the late Bernard Meyer (2017) and cherished mother of Christine (Andrew) Brown, Paul (Megan), Marcel (Stephanie) and Patrick (1985). Sadly missed Oma of Amelia, Ethan, Hannah, Mariah and Morgan Brown; Olivia, Abigail and Callista Meyer and Patrick Meyer. Dear sister-in-law of Sini Pikkemaat, Sini Meijer, Marie and Henk ter Haar and Agnes Meijer all of the Netherlands. Predeceased by her parents Getruida (Ottenhof) and Johannes Pikkemaat; siblings Riek (Bernard) Lohuis, Mary (Frank) Lohuis, Sini (Bernard) Oude Littikhuis, Femie Pikkemaat, Gerrit Pikkemaat, Stein (Gerard) Rolink and Truus Pikkemaat and brothers and sisters-in-law Gerard and Truus Wenniger, Annie and Bernard Weersink, Gerard and Truus Meijer, Leis and Jan Schutte, Hein and Anton Meijer. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews in the Netherlands and Canada. Born in Ootmarsum (Twente, Overjiessel), Joanne worked in the family business, Café Pikkemaat, and on their farm until she immigrated with Bernard in 1960, a week after their wedding. Together with Bernard and her children they established their dairy farm near Belmont. Her thoughts were never far from family in Holland but especially with the loss of their son, she discovered the love and strength of the community she had become a part of. Joanne was a woman of deep faith, committed to her family, friends and community. She worked tirelessly at making the farmstead a home with colourful gardens and creative needlework; where every visitor was welcomed with a cup of coffee and "gezelligheid". She loved being an Oma. Even in her last few years, as she struggled with dementia and lived in the moment, she could always bring a smile to those around her. Friends will be received, by appointment, at the Bieman Funeral Home, 3970 Hamilton Road, Dorchester on Thursday, August 27 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, August 28 at 11:00 a.m. at Mary Immaculate Roman Catholic Church, 1980 Trafalgar Street, London.
