Richard Sangermano, 78, of Pompey, passed away at home on Thursday, July 30. Originally from Monson, Massachusetts, besides his wife, Suzanne, of Pompey, he is survived by a sister, Beverly Sangermano of Palmer, Mass., several cousins in Monson and Southern California as well as a brother in law and sisters in law and nieces and nephews on his wife’s side of the family, many in the Syracuse area. He was predeceased by his parents, Armand and Sarah (D’Agostino) Sangermano as well as he and Sue’s very active dog of 14 ½ years, Trevor.
Rick graduated from Monson High School and American International College before arriving in Fabius, New York, in 1965 where he began teaching in the Business Education Department at Fabius-Pompey High School. He remained in that position for 33 years. As well, he coached soccer, basketball, and baseball. Fondly called ‘Sarge’ by his students/players, one former soccer player remembers him “punting the ball for what seemed like a mile high for header practice!” and “teaching us the use of our thigh muscles in his ‘hop and pop’ scenario for instep kicks”.
At home, Rick especially loved working in the yard and garden. He was a member of two Fantasy Baseball Leagues, loved playing golf and winters in Florida with a loyal group of friends.
As per his wishes, there will be no calling hours and burial will be private.
