Anthony Joseph Giovagnoli

<p>&nbsp;Anthony J. &ldquo;Tony&rdquo; Giovagnoli, 94 of Sandusky, OH&nbsp;passed away&nbsp;peacefully late Saturday night, August 1, 2020 in the Stein Hospice Care Center.</p> <p>&nbsp; &nbsp;He was born on June 18, 1926 in Sandusky, the son of Marino and Anna (Benedettini) Giovagnoli. &nbsp;Tony graduated from Sandusky High School in 1944, and entered the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY before serving in the Merchant Marines until the end of WW II. &nbsp;After the war, he went on to the University of Michigan, earning a degree in Marine Engineering and Naval Architecture in 1950. &nbsp;After graduating, he returned to Sandusky where he worked for Lyman Boat Works for over 25 years as the Chief Engineer and Designer for the company. &nbsp;Tony also worked for a short time at the Lorain Shipyard and later for OSHA as a Safety, Quality Inspector and Engineer Specialist. &nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp; &nbsp;Over the years, Tony enjoyed working on stained glass projects and woodworking, especially furniture. &nbsp;He was a member of&nbsp;Sts. Peter and Paul catholic church, the&nbsp;Italian-American Beneficial Club, the Knights of Columbus, the Lyman Boat Association (historian and speaker), and volunteered at the Merry Go Round Museum.</p> <p>&nbsp; &nbsp;Tony is survived by a son, Gary (Beth), and two daughters, Anne Marie and Diane (Scott) Giovagnoli-Broeker; five grandsons, Graham, Gavin, Dante, Dominic and Vincent, and one granddaughter, Alexandra; two great-granddaughters, Grace and Avery; and a brother, Angelo (Rickie) Giovagnoli. &nbsp;Tony was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 52 years Anita (Colussi), and son Steven. &nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp; Visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon, August 9, 2020, from 4 to 6 PM at the David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky OH. &nbsp;Due to the COVID-19 health concerns, wearing of face masks (they will be offered) and social distancing will be mandatory.&nbsp; If you are uneasy about attending, please feel free to leave a message to the family on the website.&nbsp;<br /> &nbsp; &nbsp;Prayers will be recited Monday morning, August 10, 2020, at 9:30 am at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at&nbsp; St. Mary&rsquo;s Catholic Church, 429 Central Avenue, Sandusky, OH. &nbsp;Fr. Chris&nbsp;Jesudhason&nbsp;officiating. &nbsp;Burial will follow at St. Joseph&rsquo;s Catholic Cemetery, Sandusky,&nbsp; OH.&nbsp; Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post # 83 Color Guard.<br /> &nbsp; In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to any of these organizations:&nbsp;Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, OH 44870, Habitat for Humanity, 365 N.
