Janet L. Van Timmeren Obituary

Janet Louise Van Timmeren passed from this life to the next on August 1, 2020. On March 8 during the record winter of 1936,  Janet was born to Henry and Margaret Modderman. In anticipation of her imminent birth her parents traveled via sleigh from their farm on Johnson Road outside of Lamont to her in-law’s farm on Leonard road during a fierce blizzard. For protection from the bitter cold and wind extreme measures were required for protection from frost bite; a tale Janet would often recount to her children and grandchildren. Janet lived most of her youth on the Leonard Road farm along with her five other siblings Arthur Modderman, Mary Ellen Modderman, Ruth Fridsma, Paul Modderman, and Carol Porter, Janet being the eldest. Janet attended Lamont School and Coopersville High School followed by Calvin College from which she received a teaching certificate. In 1957 she married Kenneth Van Timmeren of Eastmanville with whom she had four children. Her husband’s employment took them from Michigan to various parts of the country including Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, and Virginia. As a widow, she later lived in California until returning to Michigan settling near Belding. Janet is preceded in death by her husband, her mother and father, and her sister Mary Ellen. She is survived by her remaining siblings; her children; Kent (Cheryl) Van Timmeren, Kevin (Kristin) Van Timmeren, Anita (Jeffrey) Caspers, and Joel Van Timmeren. She was also blessed with thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. “Her children rise up and call her blessed” Proverbs 31:28.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday August 5, 2020 at the Lamont Christian Reformed Church, 4745 Leonard St., Coopersville, Mi. 49404, with Pastor Peter Adams officiating.
