Edward J. Cosby (a.k.a. Rahim Sabur) was born on May 13th, 1949 in Farmville, Virginia to the late Percy and Gladys Cosby. In 1978 the family relocated to Newark, NJ. Rahim departed this life after a year’s struggle with cancer at home on Friday, July 31st, 2020. Rahim attended South Side High School where he graduated in 1968. Upon graduation, Rahim worked for many years as a clerk in Newark’s City Hall. After leaving City Hall, Rahim became a professional house painter and painted houses from New York to New Jersey. In the early 80s. Rahim moved to Jersey City where he met his lifetime partner, Pamela Oliver, and started his family. When no longer able to paint, Rahim along with his sister, Sakinah Sabur (Ruth Chris Branch), dedicated their time to the care of their mother until her death in August of 2012. Rahim was a loving and devoted family man who loved his children with a passion. He loved taking long walks, reading the Quran and talking on the phone with his loved ones. Rahim attended Jumah at various times at Masjid Muhammad in Jersey City and Masjid Al-Haqq in Newark. Rahim leaves to mourn: his devoted partner in life, Pamela; his children, Tariq, Crystal, Natasha, Lisa, Melvin Jr. and Nyria; his grandchildren, Melvin, Iyona, Melquon, Tariq Jr., Troy Jr., Amari and Kaliyah; four great grandchildren; one sister, Sakinah Sabur (Ruth Chris Branch); two aunts in Farmville, Virginia, Gloria Foster and Charlotte Cosby; three sons-in-law, Andre, Troy (Brother Amin) and Kem; two special cousins, Edward Gene Drummond (Mustafa) and Gerald Makees Drummond; two special friends, Albert (Khabir) Peterson and William (Wali) Jennings; and a host of nephews, cousins and friends.
