Michael V. Edicola, 1936 – 2020 Mr. Michael V. Edicola, aged 84, joined his predeceased parents and siblings in heaven, when he passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at the Mease – Dunedin Hospital in Dunedin, Florida. On August 4, 1956 he married the love of his life Mary M. Manion in Utica, New York sharing a beautiful life together in holy matrimony for 64 years. For Michael, family and togetherness was always a top priority; blessed with 3 sons, 2 daughters-in-law, 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, the majority of vacations and road trips centered on visiting his family in widely dispersed locations throughout the country, enjoying great food and spending quality time together. As an avid traveler, spurred on by Mary, together they visited most all states in the continental United States. Michael’s enthusiasm for travel and cars resulted in some interesting road trips driving across the country with three boys in the back seat of the car, no air conditioning and a dried chewing tobacco pouch mistaken for a novel southern coconut snack not enjoyed by the boys. Summer wasn’t complete without the family vacation even if it sometimes meant sleeping in a wet pop up travel trailer. In addition to road trips, he and Mary enjoyed numerous ocean cruises visiting several countries in Europe and the Caribbean. He combined his love of sports and family through serving as the coach to his boys in little league baseball, and as an ardent and vocal fan to his sons and grandchildren in all their sporting endeavors. Michael enjoyed watching his beloved Yankees and could be found most evenings on the front porch, blinds drawn, snack in hand and the 12” television announcing another homerun! Michael loved to fish the St. Lawrence river and his boys can attest to some great meals he cooked at the end of the day after “freezing their k-nockers off” during the spring and fall early morning fishing expeditions. As an avid golfer, he improved greatly over time, probably more of a “duffer” while still working in his days at General Electric, but improved greatly when he had the time to golf in retirement, carding two “holes-in-one” on the Top of The World golf course. While the primary cooking duties were typically performed by his wife Mary, everyone looked forward to the treat of “Dad’s Cooking” and especially his BBQ ribs (secret) recipe and non – traditional spaghetti sauces. Holiday’s were always important to Michael and wouldn’t be complete without a sustained portion of the day breaking bread with family. And, there was always enough food to feed an army. While career was clearly secondary to family, Michael enjoyed a proud career, working and advancing through various positions over more than 35 years at General Electric Aerospace in Utica, NY and Cincinnati, OH. He had many friends acquired through work and he enjoyed playing softball (beer league no doubt) and golf on teams organized through the workplace. Afflicted with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia, he stopped working at the age of 53 with a prognosis of living another 2-5 years. As a strong willed and determined man, he would not give up on life nor his family, he participated in trials of experimental therapies which not only extended his life greatly beyond expectations at the time, but that also served to support development and approval of new therapies that undoubtedly have extended the lives of many with various forms of leukemia. Michael is survived by his wife, Mary M. (Manion) Edicola of Clearwater, Florida, his sons, Michael T. Edicola of Tierra Verde, Florida, John and Lorri Edicola of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Thomas and Rebecca Edicola of Richmond, Virginia. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren; Kaitlyn, Emily and Michael Edicola of Chicago, Illinois; Jon Edicola and Amy Van Hove of Fort Collins, Colorado, Justin, Grace and special great-grandson Nicholas Edicola of San Diego, California; and Zachary, Madeline and Jake Edicola of Richmond, Virginia. He will also be remembered by his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and many OTOW friends. A special thank you to Uncle Dominick Testa and the entire Testa family for their enduring love and support. The family would also like to thank Dr. Miranda and Florida Cancer Center Staff and the great Nurses at Mease – Dunedin hospital. Michael is pre-deceased by his parents Thomas and Mary (Del duca) Edicola, his siblings Caroline Seminaro, Antoinette Critelli, Thomas Edicola, and Theresa Barrett. Michael will be deeply missed by all, the world has lost a gentle giving soul who was especially loving, attentive and supportive to his family. As a last request, Michael asks that you send rum cake, cannoli, pusties and sfogliatelle to him in heaven, however if this is not possible and In lieu of flowers, please direct your generosity and remembrance to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
