Herbert Holzner Obituary

Herbert (Herb) Holzner, 80, went to heaven on August 1, 2020 with his wife at his side after fighting a four-and-a-half year battle with Parkinson's disease. Herb was courageous. He faced a challenging diagnosis with perseverance and positivity. Herb was born in Eger, Czechoslovakia on December 21, 1939 to Berta (Sick) and Welham Holzner. After World War II, his family traveled by train to Aalen, Germany where he lived until they immigrated to Australia. In 1956 he and his family immigrated to Wollongong, Australia. While in Australia, Herb lived and worked as a cook in an immigration camp in Fairy Meadow. He stayed in Australia until 1963 when he moved with his family to Green Bay, Wisconsin. After spending a few years here, Herb was delighted to finally become an official citizen of the United States of America. In 1985, he met the love of his life, Nanci Nelson-Contardi. They were married on April 24, 1992. Herb and Nanci loved to travel. They especially enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas, Germany and Australia to visit Herb's homelands. Herb worked at Paper Converting Machine Company for 45 years where he was a Road Service Specialist. Throughout his time at Paper Converting, he was able to travel to many countries including Japan, England, Italy, Germany, Australia and many other countries in South America and Asia. During his travels Herb made many life-long friends from all over the world. After his retirement, Herb and his wife Nanci started their own company, H & H Consulting. This new venture allowed him to continue to work and travel for many years. Herb is survived by his beloved wife, Nanci, and his daughter Lana Contardi, his step-daughters Tami (Mike) Meisner, and Darci (Bryan) Janssen, grandchildren Amanda Janssen-Egan (PJ), Alex Janssen, Nick Meisner (Katie), and Gabi Meisner (fiancé Joe Wilson), six great-geandchildren, brother Wally Holzner and Sister Christa (Jack) Shavlik, and nephews Bobby Shavlik, David and Kevin Holzner. Herb is preceded in death by his daughter Lana Jean Holzner, parents Berta (Sick) Holzner and Welham Holzner, and brothers Kurt and Roy Holzner. Special thanks to Unity Hospice, especially Monika, and the rest of his care team for all of their tireless efforts to care for him with love and dignity, as well as Tender Hearts Assisted Living for being there for his final days. We invite family and friends to join us to celebrate the life of an incredible man Thursday, August 6th at Ryan Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 12p-3p with a memorial service to follow. A memorial fund will be established in honor of Herb. Ryan Funeral Home, De Pere is assisting the family. To extend online condolences, please visit www.ryahfh.com.
