Larry A. Huckaby

<p>Mr. Larry Allen Huckaby, age 78, of Griffin, Georgia peacefully entered the arms of Jesus on Friday, July 31, 2020 after a brief illness surrounded by his loving family and friends.</p> <p>He is preceded in death by his parents Rev. Allen W. and Bessie Long Huckaby.</p> <p>He was a 1960 graduate of Griffin High School and 1962 graduate of Truitt McConnell College.</p> <p>Mr. Huckaby was a veteran and former member of the Georgia National Guard.</p> <p>He worked at Dundee Mills from 1962-1968 and worked as an Air Traffic Controller for the FAA from 1968-1981.&nbsp; His career in the cemetery and funeral business began in 1982 where he was on the building crew of Westwood Funeral Home. He was the manager of Westwood Gardens and Cemetery for 35 years.&nbsp; He started the annual tradition of having Luminaries every November in memory of the loved ones who had passed. It was truly his labor of love to the community. He would end his career by working at Conner Westbury Funeral Home where he began in 2018.</p> <p>He was a member and for a while served as an officer at the Griffin Moose Lodge.&nbsp;</p> <p>His father pastored Grace Baptist Church where Mr. Huckaby remained a life long member.</p> <p>He enjoyed working with his hands and manual labor up until10 days before entering the hospital. His ultimate joy was being with his family.</p> <p>Larry&rsquo;s calling was to serve families during their darkest time of grief and his servant&rsquo;s heart,</p> <p>genuine love and compassion endeared him to everyone who met him.</p> <p>If he ever met a stranger they left as a friend.</p> <p>He will always be remembered as a most loving husband, father, brother and friend.</p> <p>He is survived by&nbsp; his wife of 54 years, Marsha M. Huckaby, his daughter&rsquo;s Alisa and partner Kurt Marsh, &nbsp;daughter Kimberlee, &nbsp;sister Brenda Huckaby, brother Gary Huckaby and wife Joy, nieces; Selena, Alvar and husband Nestor, Paula Kelly and husband Herb, great nephews; Quade, Noah and Caden. He&rsquo;s going to be missed by his Grand Fur babies; Madison, Harley, Bogie and Max, who brought much joy to their Poppy. Thank you to the staff of Brightmoor Hospice for the opportunity to spend that precious time with Larry. Thanks also to Mike Conner and the staff at Conner Westbury Funeral Home for the love and care you have shown our family during this difficult time.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>A visitation will be on Sunday, August 2, 2020 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. The Funeral will be on Monday, August 3, 2020 at 12 noon in the chapel at Conner Westbury Funeral Home to be followed by an internment at Westwood Cemetery Mausoleum.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>

Mr. Larry Allen Huckaby, age 78, of Griffin, Georgia peacefully entered the arms of Jesus on Friday, July 31, 2020 after a brief illness surrounded by his loving family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Rev. Allen W. and Bessie Long Huckaby.

He was a 1960 graduate of Griffin High School and 1962 graduate of Truitt McConnell College.

Mr. Huckaby was a veteran and former member of the Georgia National Guard.
