Glenn William Schimpf Obituary

It is with heartfelt sadness the family of Glenn Schimpf announce his sudden passing, in his home, on July 27, 2020.

Glenn’s journey in this life began when he was born the seventh child on March 13, 1968 to David Schimpf & Gretta Schimpf (Schultz) in Ponoka, Alberta.

Throughout Glenn’s life he had a passion for the outdoors – camping, water skiing, ice fishing, hunting, ski-doing, and of course socializing with his many friends that came into his life.

In his twenties Glenn pursued a career in welding where he obtained his “B” Pressure Welder Certificate through the Alberta Boilers Association, as well as multiple specialty tickets.    He became well known for his craftsmanship.

When Glenn faced health issues in the last ten years, he was unable to continue with his welding career, but then became passionate about gardening, cooking, and becoming an expert with smoking various meats for family and friends.  As Glenn became an exceptional cook, he began providing meals to his Aunt Dorothy who lived next door.  This allowed his very senior aunt of 91 years old to live in her home.  His devotion and support to his aunt will not be forgotten.

Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life are his brothers Don Schimpf, Dennis (Maryanne) Schimpf, Bryon (Bev) Schimpf; his sisters Elaine (Ken) Jones, Marlene Effert, and Bonnie (Bryce) Liddle; his numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews; and his Aunt Dorothy Schultz and Aunt Ethel Schimpf.

He was predeceased by his parents David and Gretta Schimpf; his second oldest brother Ronald Schimpf; niece Donna Schimpf; as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A Graveside Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at the Forest Home Cemetery in Ponoka.

Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta.
