Ann Sale Dahl Obituary

Ann Sale Dahl, age 84, of Hamden, formerly of North Haven, passed away on January 15, 2015. Ann was the widow of Robert Alan Dahl Ph.D., Professor Emeritus, Yale University. Her first husband was the Presidential Scholar, James David Barber. Born in Richmond Virginia on June 18, 1930, a daughter of the late William G. & Ann M. Anderson Sale, she was the oldest of six children. Ann grew up in Charleston, West Virginia and attended Randolph-Macon Women's College & the University of Chicago and received her Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Connecticut and had an active psychotherapy practice. Ann was very active in Democratic Politics, a former editor of the Yale Press and a world traveler. She is survived by her daughters, Jane Thery of Washington, DC, Sara Connor & her husband Dr. Dan Connor of Fiskdale, MA; her step-daughter Ellen Kirsten Dahl of New Haven; her step-sons, Eric Dahl & his wife Barbara of Galeta, CA and Christopher Dahl of Portland, OR; sisters Grace Wilson of Norfolk, VA, Jane Henley of Weems, VA & Nell Sale of Albuquerque, NM; brothers, William Sale of Charleston, WV & Meriwether Anderson Sale of Harrisonburg, VA; grandchildren Charlotte, David, Ned & Ariella and 1 great grandchild. She was also predeceased by her step-son, Peter Dahl. Friends are invited attend her Memorial Service on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 2 p.m. in The Common, Whitney Center, 200 Leeder Hill Dr., Hamden, CT 06517. Burial will be private. Contributions in her memory may be sent to the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven, 70 Audubon St., New Haven, CT 06510. Arrangements are in care of Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home, 2300 Whitney Ave, Hamden.
