Edwin H. Krause Obituary

Edwin Krause, age 89, of Clear Lake, SD passed away at his home on Saturday, July 25, 2020. Funeral service will be at 2:00pm on Wednesday, July 29th at the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake. Visitation will be 5 to 7pm on Tuesday, July 28th at the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake. Burial will be at the Lakeview Cemetery with Military Honors by the Charles Curry American Legion, Post 49 of Clear Lake. Houseman Funeral Home of Clear Lake is entrusted with the arrangements. Edwin Harris Krause, the son of Arthur and Alene (Angle) Krause was born January 4, 1931 at Clear Lake, SD. He graduated from Clear Lake High School. He entered the US Air Force in 1951 and served for four years as an aircraft mechanic during the Korean War. Edwin married Shirley Siegfried on July 1, 1956. They were blessed with four kids: Regina, Laron, Rita and Karla. Edwin and Shirley lived and farmed west of Clear Lake until they moved to town in 1997. Edwin served on many boards for the United Methodist Church, Havana Township, Deuel County Crop Improvement Board, Deuel County and South Dakota Pork Producers, and American Legion Post 49. Edwin was a very humble and wise man. He could fix everything (except plastic things)! He was a RED tractor guy. The Twins and Vikings were his teams. He enjoyed coffee with the C-Store guys. He shrugged his shoulders to answer you and never complained (which didn’t help his nurses). He gave the best advice. He loved cultivating the soil and raising livestock, but at the end of a long day he usually found time to pet the farm dogs and cats on the front steps. He was his kids’ fan no matter what activity. In his “retirement” he and Shirley traveled many miles to cheer-on their grandkids in 4-H, sports, concerts, and at county and state fairs in three states. He always had advice for his grandkids, which usually ended in a belly laugh. He found so much enjoyment in his great-grandkids, and even at a young age, they learned to point their finger back at “GG.” The farming operation was his legacy. He was so proud of its sustaining growth as it entered into the 4th generation. However, Edwin never really retired from farming. He helped with planting and harvest well into his 80’s. Edwin passed from this earth on Saturday, July 25, 2020 at the age of 89 years, 6 months and 21 days. Blessed by sharing his life are: wife, Shirley; his children: Regina (Mike) Reynolds, Ruthven, IA, Laron (Jolene) Krause, Clear Lake; Rita (Bruce) Robison, Kimball, SD; Karla (Nate) Jacobson, Geneva, NE; grandchildren: Erica (Mark) Jones, Dustin (Michelle) Reynolds, Mandy (Ryan) Kabrick; Tiffany (Jason) Krause, Adam (Taylor) Krause, Brent (Lyndy) Krause; Jacob (Brandee) Kelsey, Jerritt (Nicole) Kelsey; Carl (Bella) Jacobson, Davis Jacobson, Grace Jacobson; great-grandchildren: Madison Chruscial, Brooklyn & Braden Reynolds, Sophie & Lizzie Kabrick, Knox & Brix Kelsey, Beckett Krause; one brother, Jerry (Sharon) Krause Salem, OR and in-laws: Lela Tekrony, Clear Lake, Merlyn (Joan) Siegfried, Watertown and Odetta (Jon) Hanson, New London, MN. Edwin is preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws: Harold and Mamie Siegfried and brother-in-law, Loren TeKrony. Given Edwin’s generous spirit, the family requests that memorials be made to your favorite charity.
