Jimmy Ralph Gaskin

Jimmy Ralph Gaskin Sr. (Frog), 76 years old, passed away Friday, July 24th, 2020. Jimmy was born January 8th, 1944. He was the son of James K. Vardaman Gaskin and Daisy Lee Estelle Goodwin Gaskin. He became a servant of Jesus Christ in 1978, and after joining Big Creek Baptist Church in Big Creek, MS, he became a Deacon and served faithfully for many years. He also served in the Army National Guard. Jimmy loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but one of his greatest joys was his garden. He had what most people would say was a “green thumb”. There was rarely ever a time that he did not have a beautiful garden with more than enough vegetables for his family as well as many others in the community. He loved Mississippi State Bulldogs and was always watching or listening to every game regardless of the sport. Jimmy also loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports or whatever activity they were involved in. If you knew Jimmy, you could always expect to be teased as this was a favorite thing for him to do. The love he shared with his family and the big smile he always had on his face will be missed greatly. He was one of a kind and could never be replaced. Pryor Funeral Home has the honor of serving the Gaskin Family. A Graveside Service celebrating his life will be held on Monday, July 27, 2020 at 5:00 pm at LaGrange Cemetery in Choctaw County. Bro. Chris Conlee will be officiating with interment to follow. Jimmy was a loving husband to Linda Sue McMahan Gaskin, and they would have celebrated 56 years of marriage on August 14th. He was not only a wonderful father, but great role model to his three children; Tina Carol Buhrmaster (Neil), Melanie Lynn Hawks (Stacy), and Jimmy Ralph Gaskin Jr (Jim) (Dawn). He was blessed with seven grandchildren; Trevor McGaughey Burton (Sarah), Tylyn Nicole Nichols (Rainer), Gage Walker Buhrmaster, Jarred Keith Hawks (Leah), Colin Zane Gaskin (Shaynna), William Joseph Gaskin, Jordan Kade Gaskin and six great-grandchildren; Payton Chandler Hamilton, Adaline Elizabeth Gaskin, Jett Robertson Hawks, Wyatt Keith Hawks, Lucas Zane Hawks and Eleanor Jean Burton (Ellie). Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings – Pete Gaskin, Joe Ed Gaskin, Helen Hill, Roy Gaskin and Betty Wood. He leaves behind one brother, Curtis Durel Gaskin (Mavis) and one sister, Carolyn White. Jimmy was participating with Vitalant. Vitalant Research Institute is developing technologies to detect and quantify virus-fighting antibodies to COVID-19. The family would like everyone to be informed of this research, and information about Vitalant can be found at www.vitalant.org/covidfree Expressions of sympathy may be left for the family at pryorfuneralhome@ymail.com Pryor Funeral Home takes the health of our staff, our families, our visitors, and our community very seriously, and we are adhering to guidelines set forth by President Trump and Gov.
