James Julian Rodgers Channel Port-Aux-Basques, Newfoundland and Labrador Obituary

James Julian Rodgers

On Monday, July 20, 2020 our hearts were filled with sadness as our loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, James J. (Jim) Rodgers passed away at home at the age of 68 years with his loving family by his side. Jim got his wings after a short but difficult battle with leukemia. Born in Port aux Basques he was the son of the late Albert and Vera Lillian (Battiste) Rodgers. James leaves to mourn his wife and best friend, Sharon (nee Pope) of 50 years, his daughter, Trina (Dave) Skeard, of Red Deer, Alberta, sister, Joyce (Donnie) Anderson, Port aux Basques, and brother, Albert Rodgers, Whitehorse, NWT. Brothers and sisters in laws, Clyde (Sharon) Pope, Moncton, NB, Dennis (Irene) Pope, North Sydney, Elaine (Sean) Lane and Darlene (Damon) Gilliam both of Port aux Basques. Best friends Lewis (Mic) and Kathleen McNeil, Curtis Butt and Paula Murphy, who were there to help right to the very end of his life. He had a large circle of nieces and nephews that he treasured dearly. He was predeceased by his brother, David Rodgers. Jim never took life for granted or wasted his time, he believed in enjoying each day to the fullest. He had a kind heart and beautiful soul and always believed in helping others, especially those in need. His kindness and generosity will never be forgotten by his circle of friends and family. He would do without, if it meant helping someone in need. He loved making the people around him laugh and cooking up a great meal to share. His favorite hobbies included fishing, boating, hunting, cooking, and spending time with loved ones. He often enjoyed a good yarn in the shed, or down by the wharf. He was a wonderful uncle to his nieces and nephews, and took great pride in their successes. Spend the day outside in the fresh air, share an ice cream with your loved one, do a kind deed for a friend or family member, and tell your family you love them every day, that’s what he would want in lieu of flowers. In keeping with James wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will be receiving friends and family on Monday, July 27th, 2020 from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Oceanside Funeral Home, 23 Read Street, Port aux Basques. As per Jim’s wishes there will be no formal funeral service. Donations may be made to the AIM (Autism Involves Me) PO Box 280, PAB, A0M 1C0, Canadian Batten Disease Support & Research Association.
