Alfred 'Al' Edward Dziuk

Alfred Edward Dziuk, 75, former Hereford resident, died November 16, 2009 at his residence in Amarillo. A Memorial service is scheduled for 7:00 PM, Friday, November 20, 2009 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Hereford. Rev. John Valdez will be the celebrant. A Celebration of Life service hosted by the family is scheduled for 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 21, 2009 at Hereford Heritage Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 411 E. 6th Street. Burial will follow at St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery with Rev. John Valdez as celebrant. Services are under the direction of Hereford Heritage Funeral Home. Alfred was born on May 4, 1934 in Pampa Texas and was the first Polish baby born in a Pampa hospital. He grew up in Hereford Texas and attended St. Anthony’s School followed by Price College in Amarillo. At the age of 13, Alfred attended school at La Salle Institute in Glencoe Missouri where he became a Christian Brother. Mr. Dziuk earned his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from St. Mary’s University in Winona Minnesota. Al taught English and Math at various schools and universities and worked in several non-profit organizations. He was a mayoral candidate in Berkeley California, was heavily involved in Democratic politics and visited multiple Democratic National Conventions. Al moved back to Hereford, Texas in the early 80’s where he took care of his parents Ed & Irene Dziuk until their passing. Al is survived by one brother, David Dziuk of Hereford, TX, one sister Ann Stephens of of Suquamish, WA, his wife Hazel Kleiwer Dziuk, 2 children Dzann Day and Jerry Dziuk of Austin, TX and 2 grandchildren.
