Anne Stelmachowich Obituary

Anne Stelmachowich (nee Dmytryshyn) passed away peacefully at the St. Paul Lutheran Home on Saturday, July 18th at the age of 97. Anne was born in Marlin Sk. On April 27, 1923 to the late Harry and Roberta Dmytryshyn. Anne attended school in Marlin until grade 8 when she was then needed to help stay home and care for her youngest sister Nan. Later, Anne then moved to Glaslyn and occasionally came to Fenwood to visit relatives where she then met the love of her life Matt Stelmachowich (deceased). After returning home and coming back to Fenwood again Matt knew he had to keep her so he asked Anne “maybe we should get hitched”. Before you knew it both Anne and Matt moved to Sudbury, Ontario where Matt worked at Inco Nickel mine underground for around 18 years. They then had their first three sons Dave, Brian and Mel. After their time in Sudbury, Anne and Matt decided to move back to Fenwood to farm. When farming didn’t work out, they decided to open up the Lunch Basket where their youngest, Matty, was born. The lunch Basket was located across the highway in Melville with carhops and delicious homemade foods. After some time, they moved locations and opened up the Stelmak’s Grill on Main Street which they ran until 1968 at which time they purchased Maple Leaf Billiards. Anne was known for making her delicious foods from scratch which included pies and the best french fries anyone could taste. Anne worked very hard for most of her life always with a smile on her face. In 1980 when a tragedy struck Anne had lost her husband Matt, Son Brian, and Grandson Chad to a boating accident. Matty then stepped in to help run the pool hall with Anne. Later Matty expanded the business into a family fun center and pool hall where you could always find Anne having a cup of coffee as she had a passion for the business. Anne enjoyed many things in life and had a great passion for sports. She was a renowned pitcher in her youth which she passed on over to her sons. Anne is predeceased by sister Rose Halyk and brothers Pete and Harry Dmytryshyn and survived by sister Nan and brother Nick (Eva). Anne’s love for her family and sports will be remembered by her children Dave (Sandra) and their children Tammy, Terry and Taylor (Kevin) and great grandchildren Cole, Alex, Nick, Luca, and Niko and great great grandchildren Olivia and Quinn. Brian (deceased) (Joanne) and their children Kerri (Rod) and Chad (deceased) and greatgrandchildren Brie and Grayson. Mel (Sherri) and their children Ken, Jamie (Blanca) and greatgrandchildren Serenity, Paige, and Fernando. Matty (Jen) and their children Tori and Kaleigh. Anne was and is still loved by many. Forever and always in our hearts.
