Jerusha “Rue” Shi Yuan Sanjeevi, 24, of Banting, Selangor, Malaysia, passed away in Logan, Utah on April 24, 2017. Visitation will be held at Nyman Funeral Home Located at 585 W 100 N Suite H, Providence, on Friday, April 28, 2017, at 5:00pm . After her partner, Matthew J. Bick, and her friends and academic family in Logan UT pay their respects, Matthew will accompany Jerusha to Malaysia. Her parents, Liew Sau Kuen and Michael Maniyarasu Sanjeevi, and her bother Nathanael Sanjeevi, will receive her remains in Malaysia. They will hold a ceremony and place her in her final state of rest in her home land. Jerusha was a talented chef, a prankster, and a gentle soul with a passion for social justice. In Malaysia, Jerusha worked with gifted children at the National Gifted Centre of Malaysia. She also worked with underprivileged and at-risk children at the Janda Baik Project in Kuala Lumpur. Jerusha moved to the United States to attend Bemidji State University in January of 2011. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 2013. After completing her degree, she took a position as a mental health worker at Andrew Residence in Minneapolis, providing services to patients with serious mental illness. She also volunteered at the Sexual Violence Center in Minneapolis. She was passionate about providing care and advocacy to women whose lives were affected by violence. That next winter, Jerusha met her partner, Matthew “Bear” Bick during a Chinese New Year Celebration. Jerusha loved celebrations, especially cultural ones. She loved to feed and care for her friends. She immediately stole Matthew’s heart and they became close friends and partners in life. In the fall of 2014, Jerusha enrolled in the Master’s of Arts program at Minnesota State University in Makato. She completed her degree in 2016. Jerusha was passionate about equal rights and had a prominent role in the Vote No campaign in Minnesota. The Vote No campaign sought to achieve Marriage Equality before it became a federal mandate. Ever the scholar, Jerusha also served as a research consultant for the Center for Excellence in Scholarship and Research. In the spring of 2016, Jerusha visited Utah State University to interview for the doctoral program in combined Clinical/Counseling Psychology where faculty and students immediately fell in love with her. She moved to Logan, Utah in the Fall of 2016. At Utah State University Jerusha was engaged in doctoral studies toward a PhD in Clinical/Counseling Psychology. She was a teaching assistant for Multicultural Psychology, Introduction to Interviewing and Counseling, and Introductory Psychology. In her down time Jerusha enjoyed spending time with her friends, in nature, and most recently, with her dog Jethro.
