Dateline: Gastonia Sylvia Jean Gunter, 75, of Gastonia, passed away Thursday, December 10, 2015 She was a native of Gaston County and the daughter of the late Clyde F. Gunter and Rita Huggins Gunter. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM, Monday, December 14, 2015 in the Founders Chapel of McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia with Rev. Tom Bayes and Rev. Danny Elmore officiating. No formal visitation is scheduled. Interment will be private. Sylvia was a member of the First Baptist Church in Gastonia. She enjoyed traveling, gospel music, family and friends. Survivors include her sisters, Janice Clevenger (David), Rebecca Penley and Marilyn Harper (Virgil), brothers, Don Gunter (Susan) and William Gunter (Princess), special nieces, Kim Gunter, Susan Huffman and Linda Wise, special nephews, Alan Huffman and Todd White, her extended family and special friends, Judy Taylor, Sarah Derreberry, Regina Black, Mr. & Mrs. Larry Harris, Mr. & Mrs. Doug Ritch, Mrs. Edna Burleson, Mr. & Mrs. Randall Wellman, Mr. & Mrs. Rick Pennington, Mr. & Mrs. Doug Littlejohn, Mrs. Jackie Quin, Mr. & Mrs. Oren Hudson and the employees of Walmart in Belmont, NC. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sisters, Faye G. Huffman and Ira K. White, brother, Robert L. Gunter, nephew, Steven E. Maluchnik and niece, Jennifer D. Gunter. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Gaston Hospice, P.O. Box 3984, Gastonia, North Carolina 28054.
