Mary Jean Hooper Obituary

Mary Jean Long Hooper, 69, formerly of Gastonia, passed away Friday, February 10, 2017. She was born April 12, 1947, in Gaston County, a daughter of the late Raymond Roderick Long and Marguerite Clemmer Long and the widow of William Melton Hooper. She was a 1965 graduate of Frank L. Ashley High School. Mrs. Hooper was a member of Myers Memorial United Methodist Church where she was a circle member and a member of the choir. She was a Medical Transcriptionist and Secretary at Gaston Memorial Hospital from which she retired. Mrs. Hooper was also a member of Preceptor Beta Alpha Sorority of which she held many positions of service. Mrs. Hooper is survived by two sisters; Marguerite Long (Frank) Taylor of Gastonia, NC and Carolyn L. (Dean) McGinnis of Belmont, NC, and a nephew, Ben (Caitlin) McGinnis and great niece Charlee McGinnis, all of Charlotte. In addition, she is survived by her aunt, Betty Sewell of Dallas NC, an uncle, Thomas Clemmer of Gilbert, SC, brothers-in-law, Keith (Susan) Hooper and Sam (Kimberly) Hooper and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends Sunday, February 12, 2017 from 1:30 until 2:30 PM at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia, 700 S. New Hope Road. Her Graveside Service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, February 12, 2017, at Gaston Memorial Park, with Rev. Sally Queen officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Myers Memorial United Methodist Church, 301 S. New Hope Road, Gastonia, NC 28054, or Hospice of Lincoln County, 900 Dontia Drive, Lincolnton, NC 28092.
