Harvey Wentland Obituary

WENTLAND, Harvey Raymond; It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Harvey Wentland on July 15, 2020. He passed away peacefully in his sleep at home at the age of 80. Harvey was born on September 5, 1939, in Herbert, Saskatchewan. He attended school in Herbert, Leinan, Spenst and Beaver Flats. He spent two years at the University of Saskatchewan in the School of Agriculture. Harvey enjoyed farming the land that his Grandpa Arlt homesteaded in 1910. Along with grain farming, Harvey got into the cattle business in the early '50s and raised registered polled Herefords. In 1973, he sold the herd as he was also in the motorcycle business, as part-owner of Pacific 66 Motorcycles and later Starlight Motorsports. In January of 1962, Harvey met the love of his life, Lenore Penner. They were married on June 5, 1965, in Swift Current, Saskatchewan and took up residences in the city. Harvey continued farming and commuted back and forth to the farm north of Waldeck. Harvey and Lenore had two children Janelle and Jayson. Harvey enjoyed motorcycling and taught Lenore to ride. One of their favorite destinations was to Sturgis, South Dakota, a trip they made many times over their 50 years of riding motorcycles together. Harvey also enjoyed taking his grandchildren for motorcycle rides ("for a rip around the block"). Harvey was a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church. He had a strong faith and over the last number of years enjoyed their monthly Hymn Sings. Harvey leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Lenore of 55 years; daughter Janelle (Gregg) Schaalje and their children Kennedy and MacGregor of Okotoks, AB; his son Jayson Wentland and Jayson's son Carson of Swift Current, SK; sister Viola Schatkoski; sisters and brothers-in-laws, Leona Samuelson, Audrey (Robert) Baillie, Joan Penner, Dolores (Randy) Ens, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins and very special lifelong friends, Jim and Marilyn Smart, Shannon Case, Mervin and Joanne Finell and Neil and Edith Gibbings. Harvey will also be fondly remembered by many other friends and his church family. He was predeceased by his parents Ted and Ernestine Wentland; his in-laws Henry and Agatha Penner; brothers-in-laws Albert Penner and Dawson Samuelson and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no formal service. A private family graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery on July 25, 2020, with Pastor Travis Heide of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church officiating. In Harvey's memory, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Lutheran World Relief, 600-177 Lombard Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba R3B 0W5 or online at www.clwr.org and would be greatly appreciated by the family. Warren's Funeral Home were entrusted with the arrangements.
