Lilly Hedwig Deaner, age 96, of Armada Township, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at the Advantage Living Center in Armada. Lilly was born May 1, 1924 in Enzkloszterie-Ental, Germany, the daughter of Georg and Hedwig (Hoss) Gassner. She came to the United States from Germany in 1948, the year she married Harvey H. Deaner, who was stationed in Germany while serving in the military, and they were together until he passed away on August 6, 1989. Before coming to the United States, Lilly went to college and earned a teaching certificate and then taught Kinder garden in Stuttgart, Germany during WWII. Lilly was active in the Macomb County Extension, a 4-H leader, teaching knitting, crocheting and sewing. She was also active in the Romeo Senior Citizens. Along with her family, they were long time members of St John Lutheran Church of Romeo. Lilly is survived by her 2 children: Walter (Wally) of Armada Township and her daughter Angelika Payne of Swartz Creek, along with grandson William Payne,, his wife Lyz Beth, great grandson Maksym and great-granddaughter, Kira Wallar. Lilly was preceded in death by her grandson Jesse. The family would like to thank the care staff at Armada Assisted living, Meadow Ridge for the wonderful and loving care given. Funeral services are private with burial to take place at the Romeo Cemetery.
