Ronald D. Weir Obituary

Ronald Duane Weir, son of John and Flossie (Sherman) Weir, was born on January 27, 1943 in Graettinger, Iowa. Ron passed away on July 14, 2020 at his home in Graettinger at the age of 77 years. A family graveside service will be held later this summer at Riverview Memorial Gardens in Worland, Wyoming.

Ron attended school in Graettinger, Iowa. Following school, he went to work locally, and then in the 1960's he moved to Wyoming and worked in the oil fields. Ron was united in marriage to Marilyn Keller on March 16, 1974. The couple made their home in Worland, Wyoming. He was a member of the National Guard for a short time. They moved to Montana in 1975, where Ron started his own construction company. The couple moved back to Worland in 1981 and had an oil field service company. Beginning in 1988, Ron worked during the summers as a ditchrider and in the winters, he worked in the sugar beet factory loading sugar beets. He was always a very hard worker. He retired from those jobs after 27 years and moved back to Iowa in May of 2015.

Ron was a very social person, always teasing someone. He enjoyed time with his coffee clutch, not missing a day; sometimes even meeting up with them twice a day. As his sons were growing up, he was the coach for their baseball teams. He coached them from the time they started until they were in Babe Ruth, mentoring them to two championships and a runner-up position through-out the years. Ron had a passion for fishing and hunting. Together Ron and Marilyn gardened and canned many vegetables.

Left to cherish Ron’s memory are his wife of 46 years Marilyn Weir of Graettinger; his sons Randy (fiancée Kerri Anisko) Weir of Las Vegas, Nevada, Ronnie (Shannon) Weir of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and his grandchildren: Drew Weir, Gavin Weir, Landry Weir, and Timothy Anisko. He is also survived by his daughter Jolena (Robert) Rollins of Oklahoma; granddaughter Halie; grandson Joe; great-grandson Julian; and his siblings: Shirley (Jim) Bates of Graettinger, Carolyn (Ronald) Troudt of Waterloo, and Judy Iverson of Estherville; sister-in-law Dorothy Weir of Estherville; and many nieces and nephews.

Ron is preceded in death by his parents; his son, John Ed Weir in 2000; and his brother, Robert Weir.
