Allen O. Griepp, age 86, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2020, at his residence.  Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 17, 2020, at the Christian Life Assembly of God Church in Watertown.  Gordy Hedges will officiate. The family is requested to meet at the church by 10:00 a.m. for a prayer service.

Visitation will be at the church on Thursday, July 16, 2020, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Friday.

Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown.  Honorary pallbearer will be Mark Lueck.  Active pallbearers will be Skeet Skaalan, CJ Knutson, Clay Kannas, Jake Shama, Nick Adolph and Mike Adolph.

Allen was born on July 11, 1934, in Glad Valley, SD, to Arthur and Emma (Stern) Griepp.  His family moved to Lake City, SD, due to the depression and then moved to the Watertown area where he attended school until the 8th grade.  At that time, he began to work various jobs building pole barns, road construction, grain bins, sales and farming.  He was a born salesman.  It was a sure sign he loved tinkering and fixing things when he was whistling.

On April 8, 1955, Allen married Marjorie Adolph in Watertown.  The couple made their forever home at the farm north of Waverly, SD, “where memories were made”.

Allen loved games including Dominoes and Pinochle.  He always had a story or a joke to tell.  In his spare time, Allen enjoyed fixing and welding things.  He had a rough exterior with a soft inside.

Allen is survived by his wife, Marjorie of Watertown, SD; his children: Janice Rudebusch, Pamela Kannas, Kathy Minatra (Tad Stricherz) and Larry (Laurie) Griepp, all of Watertown, SD;  six grandchildren: Amy (Skeet) Skaalen of Blair, NE, Jill (CJ) Knutson of Brookings, SD, Monica Rudebusch of Watertown, SD, Clay (Holly) Kannas of South Shore, SD, Megan (Jake) Shama of Council Bluffs, IA, and Anthony Griepp of Watertown, SD; eight great-grandchildren; his brothers: Aaron (Betty) Griepp of Watertown, SD, James Griepp of Cypress, TX, and David (Wanda) Griepp of Wayzata, MN; and his sister, Alice Schlotte of Cokato, MN.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Emma; his great-granddaughter, Summer Shama; two brothers, Ezra and Phillip Griepp; two sisters, Wilma Mastley and Marion Larsen; and two sons-in-law, Eugene Kannas and Steve Rudebusch.
