Antonio “Tony” Lara Sr., 69, of Houston, went to be with the Lord on July 13th, 2020.


Tony was born in Fresnillo, Zacatecas, México to Gilberto Lara Borjón and María Refugio Lara Frausto on October 25, 1950. He graduated from Jeff Davis High School in 1970 and married his high school sweetheart on May 20th, 1972. After high school, Tony began his career with Texaco Oil Company where he served in various capacities. He was a lifelong Houston Astros fan and worked in ticket sales and counting at the Houston Astrodome in the 1980s.


Tony is survived by his spouse, Dr. Alma Lara, his five children, Zoila Idalia Cárdenas-Bates, Ladisláo Cárdenas, Antonio Lara Jr., Felicia Lara, Annie Marie García, their spouses, and 13 grandchildren. He is also survived by his eight siblings, their spouses, and numerous nieces, nephews, and Godchildren.


Pallbearers serving are Isaí Vicente Gutiérrez, Michael Sebastián Gutiérrez, Antonio Lara III, Gerard Webre, Joshua Anthony Ferraro, Gilbert Lara III, Paul Hernández II and Jerry Alexander Lara. Honorary pallbearers are Diego Gael Cárdenas, Gabriel Jack Valdez, Samuel Lara, and Victor Manuel García III.


The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to first responders from the Houston Fire Department, and Nurse Maggie and Nurse Michael from St. Joseph Hospital.
