Cornelius B. Dyck Obituary

Dad was born April 18, 1917, to Bernhardt and Maria Dyck in Swift Currant, SK. Dad and his twin sister Margaret were the youngest of the family. At the age of 99, Dad took ill during the night of June 11, 2016 and around 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 12, the family was called to be by his side, He was struggling to breathe and was unresponsive, but remained at the Care Home in MacGregor, where he was kept comfortable by the nursing staff. Family remained at his side throughout the night and on Monday he began responding with the squeeze of a hand. On Tuesday he became very alert and had a very peaceful day. Around 4:00  p.m. he again began to struggle with breathing and around 6:00 p.m. he passed away with family at his side.
Dad was baptized upon the confession of his faith in 1937 by Bishop Cornelius Hamm.
On October 15th, 1939 Dad married Agatha Fehr and they spent 61 years together before her passing in 2001.
Dad and Mom lived in Carrot River, SK. until 1953, when they moved to Inwood, MB. and started mixed farming and had a dairy for many years. Dad also did custom haying and hauling for a number of years.
In 1977 they retired near Austin, where Dad would pick up odd jobs and continue with some carpentry work. Dad was a man of many gifts, whether welding or carpentry he was able to produce the most awesome things without any directions. Our Dad, who had no schooling, had the gift to be able to create things with his hands from a design pattern in his mind.
In 1991 they moved to Evergreen Place in Austin and Dad continued doing things with his hands. Mostly woodworking, and at the age of 92 he build his own coffin, in which he is resting peacefully today. Dad lived at Evergreen until the age of 97, when he moved to the MacGregor Care Home.
Dad was predeceased by his wife Agatha, 4 son-in-laws, 2 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, his parents and all his siblings.
Dad is survived by his children: Abe, from Calgary, AB; Netha, from Saskatoon, SK; Mary, from Gladstone, MB; John (Betty) from Winkler, MB; Ben (Ann) from La Crete, AB; Agatha, from Austin, MB; Ike (Donna) from Saskatoon, SK; and Anna (Ike) from Austin, MB; He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren.
