Obituary

Peter, the second child of Jacob and Maria (Boese) Hamm was born south of Aberdeen SK. At age 2 his widowed mother remarried, and he later became brother to 1 more brother and 3 sisters.
His school attendance was limited by the introduction of English
language and this led to a move by his Step-Dad, John Friesen and family to Mexico for 3 ½years of extreme poverty. After moving back to Saskatchewan, Peter worked for farming neighbours, the Alexander Ranch, and later farmed with his brothers. In the spring of 1940, professing his faith in Jesus Christ, he was baptized at Aberdeen SK GC Mennonite Church, the same church in which he married Katherine Quiring November 2, 1941.
Peter and Katherine farmed south of Aberdeen, raising their family of 4 children until 1952 when they moved to Muir MB, south of Gladstone. Here, he farmed, maintained the CNR water tower on the line that ran through their farm and built bridges with the  B&B Gang, all the while raising his now family of 5. The Christian faith, a central part in the lives of Peter and Katherine was continued to be taught to their children.
They moved to Portage la Prairie in 1960, continuing to farm until 1972. He also worked for CNR, Sunshine Hatchery, Kroeker Farms, Campbell Soup’s Mushroom Farm, and drove a Mail Van for Canada Post.
He had interest in gardening, making renovations on their house and others’, helping Katherine with wool carding, making wool comforters for children, grandchildren and others. Peter also volunteered his time and abilities with the MCC Thrift Shop in Portage for many years.
He had a love of music, singing and playing instruments (piano, guitar, mouth organ violin, ukulele), coffee, the Queen, bread, books, trains, horses, discussions, more coffee. Enjoyed singing in the church, slipping easily into the Bass or Tenor notes, ushering and
hosting many missionaries, teachers, and visitors in their home.
He had a relationship with God, accepting the love, forgiveness and mission of being a witness of Jesus Christ, while praying regularly for his children and grand and great grandchildren.
Even though Peter had Macular Degeneration and Katherine suffered from Alzheimer’s, he demonstrated his commitment to their marriage vows, being a witness to all as they lived their final years at Douglas Campbell Lodge. Our thanks go out to the staff at DCL.
He leaves to remember his life, sons Jim (Hilda) Hamm, Tim (Jean) Hamm, and daughters Lois (John) Hopcraft, Miriam (Delmar) Hamm, and Dory (Helmut) Isaac, Grandchildren and great grandchildren one sister Lydia Friesen. He was predeceased by his wife Katherine, granddaughter Andrea, 2 sisters and 2 brothers.
