James Mano Scott Sr. Portland, Oregon Obituary

James Mano Scott Sr.

James M. Scott was born in Los Angeles to Sidner and Ida Scott on June 21, 1930. Raised in Los Angeles with his brother, Sid, Jim graduated from Fairfax High School, and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. His love of music included playing guitar in his high school and college jazz bands. Jim graduated from Claremont Men's College, and continued his business administration studies at Harvard. While stationed at the Army Installation of Fort Jackson, Columbia, SC, he met the love of his life, Maree Munson. They were married, in Columbia, on July 7, 1955. Jim & Maree moved to Southern California, and were blessed with two sons, Mano (1956) and Michael (1960). Jim spent his career in the paper industry, working for Crown Zellerbach, James River and Simpson Paper Co. An avid skier, golfer, and tennis player, Jim instilled the love of the outdoors in his children, including the desire to become Eagle Scouts. Retiring in Lake Oswego, Oregon, he pursued his love of hiking, joining the Lake Oswego Hiking Club. He became a hike leader and earned the 300 mile Award two years in a row. Always light on his feet, Jim loved to cut a rug with his dance partners at Mary's Woods! He further developed his artistic skills in the form of ceramics and watercolor paintings. Ever the proud Grandpa, he loved to hear about everything that his granddaughter and grandsons were doing. Throughout his life, Jim was a passionate sports fan, especially PAC 12 football (Go Ducks!) Jim was predeceased by his wife Maree, and is survived by his brother Sid (JoAnne), sons Mano (Lisa) and Michael (Jolene), granddaughter Hayley, grandsons Lucas, Andrew and Jared, niece Wanda Furman, nephews Leo and Otto Scott and longtime companion, Sandra Hoover. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts will be gratefully accepted by the National Stroke Association (www.stroke.org) Glacoma Research Foundation (www.glaucoma.org) Jim will be interred, beside Maree, at River View cemetery at a private ceremony preceding the memorial.

I lovely tribute to Jim. It is obvious his love of family was first and foremost. Our prayers are with now and in the months ahead as you grieve the loss of brother, father, father-in-law, grandpa, uncle and friend.
