Obituary

It is with great sadness we announce that Maureen left us peacefully after a short battle with Cancer.  Predeceased by her parents Grace and Edward (Ned) Hanning, and Aunt Joan Hanning, whom she was very close to.  She will be deeply missed by Donald, her loving husband of 40 years, her son James (Cindy) and daughter Christine (Aaron).  She was adored her 2 granddaughters Lena and Paisley.  She will also be missed by her 2 miniature Schnauzers Ty & Max.

After moving to Nanaimo in 1978, she found her place in the choir at St. Andrews United church in Nanaimo, where she was a choir member for over 35 years.  She had a keen interest in travel, and especially enjoyed trips to The Shetland Islands, which she visited 4 times.  She also quite enjoyed visiting Finland, Estonia, Hungary, and Iceland.  In 2013 she made the trip for the second time back to revisit some of her ancestor’s homes in Wolverley and Cookley, England.  The BC coast was another special place that she loved.

A special thank you for the incredible care she received at NRGH and the Victoria BC Cancer Agency.  She was treated with nothing but dignity and respect.  Dr. Parimi and the rest of the Nurses and staff at the BC Cancer Agency showed amazing compassion and concern.  All the other doctors and nurses she encountered in NRGH Emergency Department, and the 1st Floor provided the best possible care under the circumstances.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Flowers are gratefully declined; donations can be made in memory of Maureen to the BC Cancer Agency
