Medric Moise L'Heureux Obituary

Medric Moise L'Heureux passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on October 16th, 2017 at NRGH two weeks after surgery for a broken hip.

Med was born at Jackfish Lake, Saskatchewan on July 8th, 1927 to Pierre and Annie L'Heureux and raised by a large close knit French Canadian family. Upon entering school, dad had to learn to speak English. On September 1st, 1956 he married the love of his life Lois and together they enjoyed life to the fullest. Big family celebrations such as their 60th anniversary last year and his 90th birthday this year brought him joy and provided many happy memories.

He had many business ventures in his younger years and founded Med's Farm Equipment in two Saskatchewan locations. His success allowed him to retire in 1975 and move the family to Qualicum Bay. He was always there for his family or a friend in need and dedicated many years of his life volunteering. He was an active member of the Qualicum Bay Lions and spearheaded  the building of the Lighthouse Community Centre. He was the man who said it could be done. It was during that time he received the citizen of the year award.

Mom and Dad spent 25 plus winters in Yuma Arizona where they had their second home. Dad loved fishing and shared that passion with his sons and grandsons. When he was 80 years old, he sold his boat only to buy another one. They established the Lighthouse Motel in Qualicum Bay and ran it for three years before moving to Parksville in 1993.

Med was very dedicated to his faith which was important to him for all of his life. He was an altar boy until he was taller than the priest. Even after he got married he was seen getting up and serving if an altar boy didn't show up.

Med was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Laurier in 1957 and Robert in 2012, son Laurier in 2005 and grandson Andrew in 2009.  He is survived by his loving wife Lois, son Ken (Corinne), daughters Sandy (Andrew) and Chrissy (Ross), seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He is also survived by his four sisters Therese (Gordon), Gil (Frank), Corinne, Jackie and brother Tony L' Heureux (Lynn).

A Service will be held Thursday, October 26th at 1:00pm at the Catholic Church of the Ascension, 887 Wembley Road, Parksville, BC.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Manna Homeless Society (www.mannahomelesssociety.com
