Brigitte Vandevoorde Obituary

Brigitte Vandevoorde obituary Devoted wife, mother and grandmother BANTAM – Brigitte Vandevoorde, 87, entered eternal rest on Thursday, July 2, 2020. She was the widow of Jacques P. Vandevoorde, her husband of 40 years. She was born January 27, 1933 in Tourcoing in northern France to the late Paul and Gabrielle (Pontdeville) Catteau. When she married Jacques, she left her family and her country to move to New Orleans, Louisiana. There she enjoyed raising her young family surrounded by her husband’s extended family that had immigrated to the city. A few years later, they moved to New Jersey and settled in West Caldwell. After raising her children, she began her 20-year career as a bank teller on Passaic Avenue for United Jersey Bank, ultimately retiring from Bank of America. After she retired, she moved to Connecticut to be near her daughter and wintered in California near her son. Brigitte was an excellent cook and accomplished baker, known especially for her cream puffs, chocolate mousse, and tarte aux cerises. She was also a talented seamstress and upholsterer. She knit countless sweaters for her children and grandchildren. While she traveled extensively with her husband to distant places, she most enjoyed trips to see her family in France. When age slowed her down, she took pleasure in her flower boxes and puzzles of many sorts. She always savored her 70% dark chocolate and braved any weather to keep her weekly hairdresser appointment. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Nicole Moreau with her husband Roger Moreau of Litchfield; her son Mark Vandevoorde of Los Altos, California; her grandchildren Justin Moreau, Danielle Moreau, Christine Vandevoorde, Natalie Moreau, Nicolas Vandevoorde, Jeanine Moreau and Luke Vandevoorde scattered across the country; a sister-in-law in France, a brother-in-law in Louisiana, nieces and nephews, and many cousins. In addition to her husband, Jacques, she was predeceased by her brothers Jacques Catteau and Marc Catteau, and her sister-in-law Paule Kulas. The family would like to thank the staff of Foothills VNA Northwest, especially Barbara who took such excellent care of Brigitte. Funeral and burial services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
