Thomas Martens Obituary

MADISON - Thomas Martens, age 66, died on Thursday, July 2, 2020. He was born on Dec. 2, 1953, in Beloit, Wis., to Roy and Arlene Martens. The family moved to Madison where Tom graduated from James Madison Memorial High School in 1972. Tom established a commercial cleaning business after graduation. He enjoyed working at night when his customer’s businesses were closed and pursuing his passions for golf and tennis during the day. Tom loved to play golf and work on his game in season. During Wisconsin’s long winters, he enjoyed watching golf tournaments on TV. Tom was a big fan of fast food. He was a loyal customer and his family joked that his car knew the way to local favorites without driver intervention. Tom is survived by his children and grandchildren, Michael (Charlotte) Martens, Felix, Max and Paul of Paris, France; and Tara Martens of Madison. He is also survived by his sister, Carol (Steve) Jackson of Broken Arrow, Okla; brother, John (Jerry) Martens of Tucson, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews. Tom's faith in Jesus Christ and His promise of everlasting life was a comfort during his life. The family thanks the staff at Fountainhead Homes (Rosman House) in DeForest, Wis., the UW Hospital and Meriter Hospital for their care and support. A private family service will be held. A public outdoor gathering will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 10 a.m. until. 11 a.m., on Friday, Sept. 4, 2020.
