Harold J. Kauffmann, 95, of Hazlet, NJ, died on July 6, 2020 in Hazlet, NJ. He was born in Elizabeth, NJ to the late Conrad and Mary (nee Beck) Kauffmann. Harold worked as an automotive machinist who said his best training came during his time in the Army. He enlisted in the Army following high school and was stationed in Okinawa during WWII. When he returned from overseas in 1946 he married his sweetheart. In Elizabeth, Harold was a very active member of St. Mary's Parish, serving in the Holy Name Society, the choir, and as a lector. He was an avid reader and developed a love of poetry in his children. He was an analytical mind who could find and fix any problem he was faced with. Harold was also a pilot, earning his pilot's license and he co-owned a small plane. More than anything else, Harold was a devoted family man, who adored his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren Surviving are his children, Frank Kauffmann, Ann Wassel, Conrad (Kathy) Kauffmann, II, John (Michelle) Kauffmann, Harold Kauffman, Jr., Rosemary Kauffmann, Elizabeth Kauffmann, Joseph Kauffmann, and Bridget Kauffmann Sousa; his grandchildren, Annmarie Athanaspasos, Theresa Kauffmann Macko, Debra Kauffmann, Conrad Kauffmann, III, Bernadette Bivens, Albert DiMaggio, Jr., Thomas DiMaggio, Annmarie Stout, and John Kauffmann, Jr.; and his 15 great-grandchildren. Harold was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathleen,and his granddaughter, Maryclare DiMaggio. Due to the current restrictions placed on gatherings, a private family viewing, Mass and burial will be held.
