Marilyn Marks Obituary

IN LOVING MEMORY MARILYN C. MARKS July 2, 2020 Marilyn Cone Marks, 86, of Mexico, New York went to her heavenly home on Thursday, July 2nd, 2020 at Oswego Hospital. She was born in Toledo, Ohio, daughter of Robert and Lydia Cone. She was predeceased by her parents, brother Robert, husband Rev. Charles Marks, and grandson Joel. Marilyn is survived by her daughters Valerie (husband Xerxes), and Michelle (husband Riccardo), sons Drew (wife Terri), Robert, grandchildren Kirin, Brittany, Gabriella, Matteo, Darius, and great grandchildren Blake, Ryder, and Maleeah. The beautiful Marilyn Cone was Miss Mexico in 1951. She was very active in all of the United Methodist churches in which her husband Charlie pastored: Remsen, Minetto, Seneca Falls, Baldwinsville, Geneva, Utica, Ithaca, Palermo and Oswego. Her life was one of endless song, singing in church choirs, Oswego Festival Chorus & Opera, Finger Lakes Chorale, Hamilton College Chorale, concerts in Greece and Italy, Ithaca Opera, Gerald Wolfe Community Chorus, and annually organized the Christmas Concerts in Mexico. In addition to singing, she served on the board of many of these choirs. One of her proudest achievements was that she was one of the founders of the National Women's Hall of Fame in Seneca Falls in 1969, where she met First Lady Mamie Eisenhower. Everything Marilyn did was done with great energy and cheer. She was one of the original hostesses for the Welcome Wagon organization. Her talents included modelling -- even proudly wearing Julie Andrews' original dress from the film "Mary Poppins" at a show. She was extremely talented at entertaining and was always the hostess with the mostest. She was also employed as a high school teaching assistant, and was involved in many fundraising events. She served as Vice President of Mexico Historical Society, and was longtime member of the Oswego Business Professional Women's Club, the Red Hat Society, Garden Club, and was active in many more. Her greatest joys were being with her family, her multitude of wonderful friends, and travelling the world with her companion Jim Magnuson. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would cherish donations for a Memory Bench in Marilyn's Honor, in care of, The Marks Family, PO Box 905, Mexico, NY 13114.
