Natalee Land Jenks Obituary

Natalee Eleanor (Land) Jenks, age 69, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 2, 2019, in Miami, Florida. She was born July 31, 1950 to LCDR Nathaniel “Nat” Land and Doris “DeeGee” Grainger Land. She was predeceased by her husband Thomas W Jenks, II, son of Dr. William and Jane Jenks, formerly of Lexington, VA. She was the granddaughter of Sarah Eleanor Tillar and William M Land, Sr., formerly of Emporia, VA. She is survived and missed by her brother and sister, sister-in-law, nephews and nieces, grandnephew and grandniece, and countless cousins, friends, and former students who will remember her dearly for her graciousness, understated wit, and extensive knowledge of British history.
Natalee was born in Bethesda, MD, and spent her early life living in and visiting many states and countries. She continued her love of travel to over 25 countries, including many trips with the Choir of St Thomas Episcopal Parish Church (of Miami) of which she was a long standing member. In addition to the Choir, she actively volunteered at the church, including managing the Have-a-Heart program for many years.
Natalee attended Maryville College, TN; and received a BA in History from Georgia State University and an MS in Library and Media Science from Florida State University. She worked over 30 years as the children's librarian at St Thomas Episcopal Parish School, Miami, and is loved by countless former students who continued to stay in touch for years.
Natalee had a life long love of history and could name all the kings and queens of England back to 1066, along with half the other royalty and their life stories. She had a wealth of Virginia history stories as well. She was a quick wit at Jeopardy, currently beating her sister and niece in their on-line game! She read extensively in childrens' literature, Southern literature as well as History.
Natalee will be interred in Lexington, VA, next to her beloved Tom. A Memorial service will be held at a later time to be announced. In lieu of flowers, send any donations in her name to the St Thomas Episcopal Parish School or the St Thomas Episcopal Parish Church, Miami, FL, or the charity of your choice.
