George William "Bill" Oldham Obituary

George William "Bill" Oldham passed away on January 18, 2014 at his home in McMinnville. Bill was born December 14, 1928 in Portland, OR to Carl Everett and Elsie Louise Schreiber Oldham. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 11:00 at Lafayette Community Church with private interment at Evergreen Memorial Park. Bill grew up in McMinnville, OR and was raised on a farm in west McMinnville. He attended Columbus Grade School and McMinnville High School graduating in 1946. During WWII while he was in high school (16 years old), he was hired by Joe Dancer to drive a school bus. He resided in Southern California for a couple of years and in Hillsboro for three years moving to McMinnville in 1963. He has resided in McMinnville since that time. He served in Marine Corps attached to the Navy Headquarters for the Far East from 1952-1953, being honorably discharged. Bill and Lois were married on July 24, 1965 in McMinnville. Bill was a log truck owner and driver from 1947 1951, a long-haul truck driver from 1952 1970, and a warehouseman for 10 years at Farmer's Co-op Oil. He was owner-operator of Oldham's Classic Cleaners in McMinnville for 18 years. Bill was a charter member of Lafayette Community Church. Bill was a member of the Masonic Lodge from 1964 present being Grand Master of Masons in Oregon from 1992-1993 and a member of Kiwanis for a few years. Bill was field supervisor for the City of McMinnville Parking Patrol for 9 years, a member of the Planning Commission for two terms, and a member of Fleet Supervisors of Oregon (Portland) being President in 1972. Surviving are his wife, Lois, McMinnville, son, Richard, McMinnville, daughters, Marilyn L. Dunn, Salem, OR; Nancy M. Hitch, Silverton, OR, Julia A. Oldham, Bend, OR and Angela E. Brown, Hillsboro, OR; 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Bill was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Oldham, a daughter, Marilee Luttrell, and a granddaughter, Carly Jo Luttrell. Bill enjoyed woodworking, traveling, camping, reading, and listening to music. Bill was a special man, loving husband and father and wonderful grandfather and great grandfather. God blessed us with his life in so many ways. We will miss him dearly.
