Arthur Walter "A.W." Reed Sr. Obituary

Mr. Arthur Walter “A.W.” Reed Sr., 87, resident of High Point, died July 2, 2020 at Westchester Manor.

A.W. was born May 16, 1933 in Bennettsville, SC, a son to the late Clarence and Nellie McCall Reed.  After moving to this area, he worked as an upholstery supervisor and was a member of First Emmanuel Baptist Church.  Later, after moving back to South Carolina, he re-joined Sawmill Baptist Church in Bennettsville.  Mr. A was a deacon who enjoyed attending church, fishing, watching baseball and wrestling, and listening to gospel sermons on cassette tape while wearing his ball cap of choice.  He will be dearly missed, but is now at peace and will be laid to rest next to the love of his life, Ollie Mae Reed, who preceded him in death in 2014.

Surviving are three daughters, Geneva, Thelma, and Retha; three sons, Arthur Jr., Carl (wife Antroinette), and Charles; two brothers, Isaiah and Lawrence; nineteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and sixteen great-great grandchildren.  In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one great grandchild, two sisters, and five brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday in the chapel of the Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.  A graveside service will follow on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Cheraw, SC.  A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.

Special thanks is extended to Sawmill Baptist of Bennettsville, SC and First Emmanuel Baptist and Emmanuel Senior Enrichment Center of High Point.
