Alan A Anderson Obituary

Kingsford – Alan A. Anderson, 78, a lifelong resident of Kingsford, Mich., passed away Thursday, July 2, 2020, at St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay, Wisc., with his loving wife and family by his side. He was born December 7, 1941, in Norway, Mich. to the late Elwood and Sadie (Reed) Anderson, Sr. Alan attended Kingsford High School with the class of 1961. He served in the U.S. Navy for nine years and, after his honorable discharge, joined and eventually retired from the National Guard. Alan donated his military uniforms to the Vietnam Veterans Museum in Hermansville, Mich. where they are on display. He attended the police academy and was a Kingsford police officer for 25 years and was the police chief from 1989 to 1994. Alan married Yvonne Piper, and she preceded him in death in 1997. They loved to travel and visited every state in the Union. In their travels, they would exchange Kingsford police patches for that of every state they visited; this allowed Alan to travel the country and proudly represent his military and police service. The patches were representative of the unity Alan felt among all Americans. He was a family man and was a dedicated and devoted husband; his children and grandchildren were his world. Alan instilled values of righteousness in each of them that will carry on in their souls. In 2002 he married his buddy and best friend, Elizabeth Newstrom. They enjoyed going to the casino, camping, and traveling all over the United States in their camper. Some of the best times were taking their grandchildren two at a time to Wisconsin Dells. Alan also enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and spending time with his family. He was a dedicated and active member of the 40 et 8, Uren-Cooper Johnson American Legion Post #50, and the V.F.W. Post #3674, Iron Mountain, Mich. He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years Elizabeth; one son, Greg “Chip” (Jennifer) Anderson, Kingsford, Mich.; two daughters, Melody (Bob) Alquist, Ft. Lupton, Colo. and Melissa Anderson, Kingsford, Mich.; step-son, Shawn (Bridget) LaRoche; two step-daughters, Juanita Morin and Wendy Nichols; one brother, Elwood (Carolyn) Anderson, Iron Mountain, Mich.; one sister Donna Eckhardt, Las Vegas, Nev.; seven grandchildren, Nicole, Casey, Christopher, Michael, Benjamin, Kelly Jo, and his little wood tick Abigail; four great-grandchildren, Ava, Jordan, Zack and Marcus; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife Yvonne, he is preceded in death by one brother Jim Anderson. Private family services will be held. Public graveside services will be Tuesday, July 7, 2020, at 11:45 AM, Breitung Township Cemetery, Quinnesec, Mich. Pastor Chad Harrison will officiate. Uren-Cooper Johnson American Legion Post #50, Iron Mountain will accord military honors.
