McAllen, Texas 

Maria del Socorro Vargas entered eternal rest Thursday, July 2,2020 surrounded by her family at the Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen. Maria was born May 13, 1955 in Reynosa, Mexico to Manuel and Maria (Mejia) Catellanos. She was a resident of McAllen for most of her life. She loved and enjoyed cooking, she cooked really great food, was very active and a hardworking lady. She enjoyed selling Avon. She loved and cherished family gatherings. She truly lived life to its fullest. Maria will forever be loved and remembered by her family and those that came to know her. 
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother- Javier Castellanos. 
Left to cherish her memory is her beloved husband; David Vargas; her children- David,Jr., Crystal Vargas, Jorge Vargas; Her siblings- Tony Castellanos, Juan Castellanos, Carlos Castellanos, Jorge Castellanos, Alejandro Castellanos, and Martha Castellanos. 
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and keeping with social distancing orders, all necessary restrictions will be observed in order to protect the health and safety of those in attendance. Wear face coverings while inside building. Continue to practice social distancing while inside the funeral home chapel. We continue to ask that those at risk or those not feeling well stay home and reach out to the family through our obituary page.

A gathering of family and friends will be Monday, July 6,2020 at Rivera Funeral Home Chapel of Remembrance from 4:00pm-9:00 pm with the recital of the Holy Rosary to begin at 7:00 pm. Funeral service will be Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at 2:00 pm at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at 3:00 pm to Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Mission. 
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Rivera Funeral Home in McAllen.
