May 18, 1933 – July 2, 2020, Richard George Seibert, 87, of Newtown, Connecticut, died peacefully at home after a long illness surrounded by family. Born in Callicoon, NY, he married the love of his life for 57 years, Theresa Ann Seibert. Raised in Narrowsburg, NY, he was the only child of George and Antoinette Seibert and Father of three sons: Michael and his wife Rebecca, Joseph and his wife Amy, and Thomas Seibert, all of Connecticut. Richard was most proud of his six grandchildren, Matthew, Timothy, Emily, Nathan, Andrew, Sean, and great grand-daughter, Mackenzie, as well as many nieces and nephews. A veteran, Richard served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957. After graduating from Clarkson University with a degree in mechanical engineering, Richard worked early in his career at Grumman on Long Island. Richard was very proud of his more than 40-year career as a transmission design engineer and later as a Blackhawk engineer with Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford, CT. While employed there and raising his three sons, he also obtained his master’s in engineering from the University of Bridgeport and a master’s in business administration from the University of New Haven. A devout Roman Catholic, Richard attended St. Rose of Lima for the 56 years he lived in Newtown. Always with a chuckle and an arm around or a hand touching his wife, he loved time with family and its many activities. While his boys were growing up, he would be found driving to and from hockey, baseball or football practice and games. As their baseball coach, he was affectionately nicknamed “Buttermaker” (aka Walter Matthau), much to the amusement of his children. Loved by his players and fellow fans, his voice on the sidelines as a spectator was always recognizable. Always a great role model, he enjoyed fishing with his three boys. He loved attending all his grandchildrens’ sporting events, dance recitals, band and choral concerts, recorder concerts, and graduations. Always with a camera in his hand, he tried to capture everything at these events. He had an artistic hand, admiring good art and painting his own creations of sporting figures and landscapes. He loved aviation and history, the flag, the National Anthem, and the wildlife of New England. He wore many a sweater with deer or eagles on them. He was known far and wide for his soup making. An avid Boston Red Sox baseball fan, New York Rangers hockey fan, and most passionately, a New York Giants football fan. He was a devoted fan of Clarkson hockey and attended many games. Richard loved to travel, chaperoning the high school band school trips to Germany. He travelled to Italy, met relatives in East Germany after 1989, England and Wales, Switzerland, Spain, and Honduras. Many a family vacation, often driving in their old station wagon, they visited South Dakota, Washington, D. C., Vermont, Florida, and Atlantic City. A lover of cruises, he visited Aruba, Bermuda, and many other islands with his wife and relatives. Richard loved a good game of video poker at the casino.
