Cary Lawson Moore
<p>Before going to be with Jesus and reunite with her husband Gus and countless other loved ones, Cary Lawson Moore of Birmingham checked off both life boxes – “longevity” with 93 years and “quality” with a life of involvement, service, joy and love. Her pride for her four sons and their families was boundless, but “family” extended beyond blood and marriage. She delved deeply into genealogy and was a board member of the Callaway Family Association. From the University of Kentucky to chapters she helped establish elsewhere, Alpha Xi Delta sorority sisters were sisters for life. Raised in Morgan County, KY, and Cincinnati, OH, Cary earned a degree in art from UK, loved watercolors, was a founding board member of the Bluff Park Art Association and taught art classes for years at Bluff Park United Methodist Church. She and Gus were members of the Opportunity Sunday School Class since the 1960s; she sang in the choir some 40 years, played handbells and was the former Sunday school superintendent. Not only did her involvement in life bring her great joy and lasting friends, but she gave of herself fully to these groups that others may benefit from them as well. And her “Grandma Cookies” were legendary.</p> <p>Cary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, August A. Moore; her parents, Sacre F. and Golda Lawson; brother, William Lawson; and daughter-in-law, Josie Moore.</p> <p>Cary is survived by her sons: David F. Moore (Diane) of Arab, Daniel A. Moore (Brenda) of Birmingham, Richard S. Moore of Irvine, CA, and William A. Moore (Holly) of Niceville, FL; seven grandchildren: Hunter (Renee) Moore; Julie (Josh) Payne, April Moore and Brittany (Jonathan) Brain; Rebecca (Brad) Pzinski, Joshua (Rachael) Moore and Hannah Moore; and five great grandchildren: Harley Stengel, Caroline and Andrew Payne and Lorelei and Shua Moore. Cary is also survived by her loving caregiver, “daughter” and “Girlfriend,” Laketris Sturdivant.</p> <p>Services are at 3 p.m., Sunday, July 5, 2020 at Bluff Park United Methodist Church with a viewing at 2:30 p.m. and with burial at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.</p> <p>In lieu of flowers, tax-deductible donations can be made to Bluff Park Art Association, P.O.
