Katharina Helena Freeman Obituary

Katharina Helena Freeman (Bryant), called “Nina” or “Kathy” by family and friends, passed away peacefully on Sunday June 28th in Charlotte, North Carolina, surrounded by her husband, brother, and loving daughter.

Nina was born to loving parents on January 14, 1972, the middle of three children in Bethesda, Maryland. After the tragic death of Nina's mother, Lydia Bryant, in 1974, Nina and her sister Lisa and brother Eric were raised at various times by their father, Ed Bryant “Eddie”, and his parents, Edward and Virginia Bryant (formerly of Hat Creek, WY).  In 1983, her father married Susan Douds, adding two younger stepsisters, Jennifer and Emily, to the family.  Ed and Susan settled in Toms River, New Jersey for most of Nina's remaining school years. After graduating from Toms River North High School in New Jersey, Nina moved to Montgomery County Maryland to live with her grandparents, Ed & Virginia Bryant.  It is in Maryland where Nina met her husband, Joe Freeman with whom she was blessed to have a beautiful daughter, Allie.

As a young child, Nina especially enjoyed Summer trips with her grandparents to visit family in Denver, Fremont County Wyo., and Niobrara County Wyo.  Roaming ranches and farms, exploring farmyards and animals, riding horses and looking for rocks in the Seaman Hills were cherished early memories of hers. Later as a teenager she always enjoyed visiting and meeting her young second cousins as they grew.

As an adult, Nina greatly enjoyed gatherings with family, playing games, watching movies, reading books, listening to music, fishing and especially enjoyed laughing along with all of the small pearls of life which she frequently found in everyday life. She enjoyed her time working for real estate agents in Maryland, and also made many friends working for Giant grocery stores. Nina always looked forward to beach vacations with Joe's parents, Bob and Linda, and family at Ocean City, MD.  Fishing trips with Joe and Allie at different locations throughout Maryland were treasured times together. Nina also enjoyed several summer trips with her daughter to visit her grandmother, brother, sister and other family members in Wyoming and Nebraska, which always included a day trip to the mountains near Laramie, refreshing her spirits. Most importantly, Nina deeply loved the opportunity to be Allie's mother and was so happy to have such a sweet and caring daughter with whom she could share her love.

Nina is preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Lydia Bryant, grandfather Edward C. Bryant, cousin Robert Kirkpatrick, aunt Bonnie Kirkpatrick (Bryant), along with her family from Germany including grandparents Rudolf and Antoinett Weigmann, cousin Joachin Ehbrecht, aunts Netti Glimm and Missi Vroegop (both Weigmann), and uncles Erich and Walter Weigmann.  She is survived by her husband Joe Freeman and their daughter Allie (Charlotte, NC), stepson Calvin, grandmother Virginia Bryant (Laramie, WY), sister Lisa Bryant (Scottsbluff, NE), brother Eric Bryant and family (Laramie, WY), cousin Katie McGuire and family (Colorado Springs, CO), stepsisters Jennifer Roberts and Emily Thompson McClain and families (Charlotte, NC), stepmother Susan Bryant (Charlotte, NC), aunt Lotti Ehbrecht (Wismar, Germany), and many more first cousins throughout Germany, Netherlands, Namibia, and South Africa.

Viewing and graveside services are scheduled for Monday, July 6, 2020 at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., respectively, in Lusk, Wyoming, managed by Pier Funeral Home and officiated by Rev. Mark Lohr.
