HANNAH JOYCE (BATTLE) MASSIE, 88, passed away January 14, 2017. She was born August 23, 1928 in Rome, Georgia, the daughter of the late Frank Battle and Mary Ella Kinnebrew. She attended schools in Chattanooga, Tennessee and Springfield. Hannah retired from AFLC Office of History, WPAFB after 32 years of service. She joined Trinity AME Church in January of 1954 where she served at various times as Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Steward and was a member of Missionary Society, Pastor's Aid, Daughters of Trinity and Silhouette Club. Hannah was Past Matron of Golden Star Chapter No. 1, O.E.S., P.H.A., Honorary Past Commandress of Akbar Court No. 33, Daughters of Isis, Past Commandress Club and charter member of the Guys & Dolls Club. Survivors include her two daughters, Brenda J. Jones and Cynthia L. Massie both of Springfield; one son, Chris D. Massie of Springfield; granddaughters, Lisa L. Langford, Angela C. Gorman and Melinda A. Massie; grandsons, Paul T. Massie and Shannon M. Massie; great-grandsons, Sean A. Hill, Darjon R. Massie, Isaiah Massie, "Little Ray" Raymond Massie, Kenneth A. Moore and Harrison W. Moore; great-granddaughters, Makiah R. Massie, Cameron Massie and Hannah M. Moore; one sister, Linda Battle of Pataskala, Ohio; a favorite uncle, George (Rachel) Buford, Sister-in-law, Lola Massie and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Massie Jr. in 1994; two daughters, Donna Eileen and Mary Ella; a son, Paul R. Massie; stepfather, Charles Johnson; dear friend, Don Nelson and wise and unforgettable grandmother, Mahalia Buford. On behalf of Hannah's beloved family, they would like to thank Hospice of the Miami Valley, Forest Glen Health Campus and Dr. Joseph Morman for all their special care. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 from 1-2 pm in the Trinity AME Church, 554 Selma Rd. A celebration of Hannah's life will begin at 2 pm with Dr. Reverend Peggy E. G. Turner officiating. A repass will follow at the church. The committal service will be held on Thursday at 10 am in the Rose Hill Mausoleum with entombment to follow.
