Marianne Elizabeth Battista

Dr. Marianne Stankiewicz Battista, 85, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2020, at Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center. Born December 6, 1934, in Trenton, NJ to Louise and Frank Stankiewicz. She most recently resided at Meadow Lakes Retirement Community in Hightstown, NJ, having lived 51 years in Bordentown, NJ and 9 years in Florence, NJ. Marianne was a graduate of Rider University ’56, M.A. ’70 and a few years later earned her Ph.D. from Temple University. Dr. Battista taught accounting at the undergraduate and graduate level at Rider University for 24 years until retirement in the mid 1990s. She received many awards including the Distinguished Teacher Award in 1981, and the Rider University Sesquicentennial Medal. She was inducted into the College of Business Administration Hall of Fame and received the Rider Faculty Lifetime Achievement award. Other than her scholarly pursuits, she was accomplished at needlepoint, scrabble, bridge and her passion for swimming laps carried over to Meadow Lakes. She is known in all of the communities in which she lived for her wit, her compassion and her religious faith. Marianne is predeceased by her husband, Professor George L. Battista; her sisters, Lillian Stankiewicz Iero and Carolyn Stankiewicz Deodato. Most importantly to her, Marianne was the beloved grandmother (Busia!) to Claire, Hannah, Brian and Bella Battista; she is survived by her sister, Mildred Stankiewicz Oswald; her sons, Gregory Battista and wife, Melissa; Dr. Robert Battista and wife, Tracy; Dan Battista and wife, Dori; many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, the St. Mary R.C. Church community, Bordentown, and more recently, the St. Anthony of Padua Church community in Hightstown. Please join us celebrating her life on Monday, July 6, 2020, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Huber-Moore Funeral Home, 517 Farnsworth Ave, Bordentown, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s R.C. Church, 45 Crosswicks Street, Bordentown, NJ. Burial at Bordentown Cemetery will follow. Contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Rider College George and Marianne Battista Scholarship (https://secureforms.rider.edu/give.html) or the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org).
